Leading and upcoming bands entertained the audience at an open air concert organised to celebrate the month of Victory on the Channel-i premises at Tejgaon in the capital on Monday. The concert, titled Coca Cola Channel-i Bandfest, started with observing a minute’s silence commemorating the veteran painter Qayyum Chowdhury who died on Sunday night. Before the bands took to the stage, musicians and audiences expressed their respects to the martyrs of independence war in their speeches.
The show opened with Uccharon, a pioneer band of Bangladesh music scene, founded by late eminent singer Azam Khan. The band performed their popular song ‘Ore Saleka, Ore Maleka’ followed by ‘Rail liner oi bostite’.
Chittagong based young band Bay of Bengal and pop singer Mehreen were the next two acts on stage.
Audiences were totally delighted by the performance of recent craze Chirkut. Audiences, mostly youth, sang along when they presented Jadur Shohor and Kanamachhi.
The roll of entertainment continued as Joler Gaan, a fusion based group followed Chirkut. They performed three of their most popular songs Bokul Ful, Emon Jodi Hoto and Aami Ekta Patar Chhabi Aaki.
Six, a television music reality show winning band took the stage and presented classic Lalon song Kanar Haat Bazar and a popular song on war of independence Teer Hara Ei Dheuer Shagor.
The atmosphere, however, reached fever pitch later as big names like Artcell, Ark, Tirondaj, Shunno, Radio Active and several other bands took the stage one after another.
Shunno performed their popular song Shoto Asha, while Tirondaj expressed their patriotism by performing Jago Bangladesh. There was something worthwhile for every rock fan that was present at the show.
The main attraction of the evening was Ayub Bachchu and his band LRB, which set the stage on fire with his evergreen presentations of popular songs such as Mon Chaile on Pabe Deho Chaile Deho and Sei Tumi Keno Ato Ochena Holey.
