The Bangladesh Football Federation on Saturday announced that the fourth edition of Bangabandhu Gold Cup will be held from January 8 to 18 with the participation of eight teams.
The decision was finalised at an emergency meeting of BFF, which confirmed that Bangladesh national team and Bangladesh Under-23 team will participate in the tournament alongside Malaysia, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Cambodia and Nepal.
The Bangladesh Under-23 team was included in the tournament to give the players some valuable match practice ahead of South Asian Games, scheduled to be held in India from February 6 to 16.
The BFF, however, could not confirm if all invitees will send their national team.
‘We asked all the participating teams to send their national teams,’ said BFF’s senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedi. ‘I believe the invited countries will send their main sides.’
The matches of the tournament will be held in Dhaka and Sylhet.
Like the previous edition, Channel 9 will be the title sponsor for the tournament,’ said BFF officials.
