The site of Bangabazar Shopping Complex, which was burnt to the ground on April 4, is being prepared so that the affected shop owners can resume their business from makeshift shops.
Abu Naser, spokesperson of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), said the site is being prepared for business under the supervision of DSCC’s Chief Engineer Saleh Ahmed in cooperation with the city corporation’s investigation committee.
Sand and bricks will be dumped across the 1.79 acres of land of Bangabazar market, he said.
So far, 40 truckloads of sand and about 90,000 bricks have been dumped on the land, the spokesperson said.
To prepare the entire land, a total of 2.5 lakh bricks and 150 truckloads of sand will be needed, he said.
DSCC workers were seen working to complete dumping sand and laying bricks in the entire area by the end of today.
Besides, the waste removal activities from the fire-ravaged site have been going on since yesterday morning.
So far, 1,060 tonnes of waste have been removed from the site, Abu Naser said.
