Bangladesh made a big step towards their first South Asian Basketball Championship title after they beat a strong Pakistan side by 77-68 points in their third game of the five-nation competition at the Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium on Sunday.
Bangladesh, who won all of their three games in the competition including a 89-44 victory over Bhutan and 81-74 triumph against Nepal in their first and second match respectively, rode on another spectacular performance from Mithun Kumar
to defeat their most fearsome opponents in the competition.
Mithun Kumar caged 31 points while his team-mate Mithun Sarker scored 17 as Bangladesh registered their first victory against Pakistan at the international level.
The hosts will clinch their first international title if they can beat Maldives in their last match of the league-basis competition today.
Earlier in the day’s other match, Nepal beat Bhutan 94-42, thanks to Sadish who scored highest 30 for Nepal.
Nepal were leading 45-27 after the first-half.
