A 16-member Bangladesh contingent will leave for Jakarta today to participate in the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games, which is scheduled to start on September 22 in Palembang, Indonesia.
The world’s 57 Muslim nations will compete in the 10-day long meet, where Bangladeshi athletes will participate in three of the ten disciplines – archery, taekwondo and weightlifting.
Archers Imdadul Haque Milon, Ram Krishna Saha and Sadequl Islam will participate in the recurve-bow and team archery events, while Sraboni Biswas (-73kg) and Shahnaz Khatun (+73kg) will compete in taekwondo.
Four weightlifters – Shahria Sultana (-63kg), Fahima Akhter (-58kg), Mollah Sabira Sultana (-48kg) and
Mostain Billah (U-62kg) – will also represent Bangladesh.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Bangladesh Olympic Association secretary general Shahed Reza was hopeful that the athletes would give a decent show.
‘We had some funds crisis; otherwise the preparation could have been better. Still, we are hopeful of a good performance,’ Reza told reporters.
Archer Milon, who will carry the national flag of Bangladesh in the opening ceremony, also promised a good show.
`I took a preparation of 25 days. I’ll try to put in my best to bring some glory for the nation,’ said Milon.
