Bangladesh is keen to host a football series at youth level against China to celebrate the 40th anniversary of friendship between the two countries in May next year, said a top official on Thursday. The proposal was initially discussed on August 30 at a meeting of the ministry of foreign affairs, who had requested the youth and sports ministry to submit a budget through the Bangladesh Football Federation by September 29.
The BFF gave a budget of Taka 1 crore for two friendly matches between two age-level teams in a home-and-away basis.
The ministry of youth and sports deemed the budged too high and initially cancelled the proposal but deputy minister for youth and sports Arif Khan on Thursday said that they are giving this plan a second thought.
‘Personally I am interested to organise the series as it is important to improve the relation between the two counties,’ said Arif.
‘Initially the secretary of our ministry cancelled the proposal, but I told him to revise it and submit it to the foreign ministry. We hope the foreign ministry will accept the budget,’ he said.
