The Bangladesh women’s national team succumbed to their second consecutive Twenty20 defeat against their Indian counterparts as they went down by seven wickets in the second match of the three-match T20 international series in Baroda on Thursday.
Chasing Bangladesh’s modest total of 88-4 in their stipulated 20 overs, the Indian eves romped home to take an unassailable 2-0 lead as they posted 91-3 with two overs to spare.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Bangladeshi cricketers again failed to maximise their batting potential to put on a less than challenging total.
The opening duo of Shahanaz Parvin (15 off 29 balls) and Farzana Haque (23 off 38 balls) were not separated before the 10th over but they were only able to carve out a 30-run stand as Bangladesh’s scoring rate never really gathered any momentum.
Shukhtara Rahman was the highest scorer for the visitors as she struck two sixes to add some late impetus to the scoreline but once she departed after making 29 from 24 deliveries, Bangladesh’s innings eventually petered out.
Even though the Indian ladies opted to overhaul the target without their match-winning opening pair of Poonam Raut and Thirush Kamini in the first T20, they still coasted to their destination courtesy of another fine opening stand, this time by Anagha Deshpande (28 off 39 balls) and Mona Meshram (29 off 33 balls) who put on 52 runs in 10.3 overs.
Harmanpreet Kaur (11 off 12 balls) and Poonam (18 off 17 balls) were the unbeaten batters at the crease in the end.
Panna Ghosh (2-18) was the only successful bowler for Bangladesh as none of the other bowlers were capable of making any in-roads.
The third and final T20 takes place at the same venue today.
