Bangladesh heartbroken again
Bangladesh were left heartbroken again when they lost 1-0 to Nepal in the semi-final of the 3rd SAFF Women’s Championship at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Wednesday.
A 55-minute penalty from Sajana Rana shattered Bangladesh’s dream of reaching the final for the first time. This was the second time that Bangladesh lost to the Himalayan side in this stage of the competition. The other occasion was in the 2010 championship, when they lost 3-0.
Bangladesh were also eliminated from the semis of the South Asian Games by the same opposition in 2010 by 1-0.
After a barren first-half, Nepal pressed hard to break the deadlock and finally got the result 10 minutes into the second half by earning a crucial penalty and Sajana calmly converted it to seal the victory. Nepal will now take on the defending champions India, who in the other semi-final crushed Sri Lanka 5-0, in the final on Friday.
