Bangladesh Legends, a team formed with former cricketers, will leave for India on Saturday to take part in the ‘Unacademy Road Safety World Series T20’, scheduled to be held at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur from March 5 to March 21.
In the opening match, Bangladesh will take on the India Legends.
An array of stars including Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara, Tilakratne Dilshan and many more legends of six cricket playing nations — England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and host India — will be back on the field to recreate the magic of old in the annual T20 cricket tournament, organised to create awareness towards road safety.
Nafees Iqbal, a former national team cricketer, who will be playing for Bangladesh Legends in the event told New Age that he was very happy to play in such a tournament.
‘I was contacted by the organisers. I think a company called PMG is managing the player selection part. We did not form any alliance or team here, they contacted us individually’, said the former Bangladesh opener.
Apart from Nafees, former players like Khaled Mahmud, Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique, Mehrab Hossain, Javed Omar Belim, Hannan Sarkar, Mohammad Sharif, Rajin Saleh, Mushfiq Babu, Aftab Ahmed and Alamgir Kabir will be representing Bangladesh Legends in the tournament.
Nafees also said if everything goes according to plans like obtaining visa, COVID-19 negative certificate and other formalities, the team will fly out for India on February 27.
