Bangladesh men’s Under-23 team on Monday secured gold medal in the 13th South Asian Games when they beat their Sri Lankan counterparts by seven wickets in the final at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal.
Pacer Hasan Mahmud claimed 3-20 while Tanvir Islam took two wickets as Bangladeshi bowlers bowled out the opposition for 122 runs in 20 overs after they opted to field first.
In reply, skipper Nazmul Hossain scored an unbeaten 35 runs while Saif Hasan and Soumya Sarkar made 33 and 27 runs respectively as Bangladesh reached 125-3 in 18.1 overs to retain their SA Games title.
Earlier in 2010, Bangladesh won gold medal in the same discipline after beating Sri Lanka by six runs in Mirpur.
Bangladesh now have earned 19 gold medals in the ongoing SA Games, their best ever result in the competition.
Previously in 2010 in Dhaka, they achieved 18 gold medals which was their previous best ever result in the South Asian meet.
