Bangladesh government has allowed locally made motorcycles of up to 375cc along with the existing imported motorcycles of up to 165cc to facilitate the expansion of the local industrial sector.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, under the road transport and bridges ministry, on Wednesday issued a circular in this regard.
It said that following the Import Policy Order 2021-2024 and a decision taken in a meeting held at the home affairs ministry on September 7 this year the decision was taken that along with motorcycles of up to 165cc, registration will be given for the motorcycles made inside the country of up to 375cc.
The order would be in effect immediately for public interest, it added.
Earlier the government in July 2017 has allowed import of motorcycles of up to 165cc, raising the limit from the then existing 155cc following a request from the local importers and assemblers.
According to that order, import of motorcycles of above 165cc and used for more than three years is prohibited in the country.
