Bangladesh players lack basic skills

Bangladesh national hockey players lacked international basic skills and they need to play more international matches to improve their standard, Bangladesh national hockey team’s German coach Gerhard Peter Rach said on Monday.
“We realized very bitterly in the 8th Asia Cup that the Bangladesh players lacked basic skills.
The time we got before the Asia Cup to prepare the team was not enough. We needed more practice matches, Rach told reporters at a news conference at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) Khondoker Jamil Uddin said they want to keep the two German coaches and a video analyst with them for the national hockey team but it would not be possible without the help of sponsors.
He also sought one year time for the development of Bangladesh hockey.
“If we cannot make any improvement I’ll not hold the post. Please give me one year time to work for the development of Bangladesh hockey,” the General Secretary said.
Bangladesh national hockey team returned from Malaysia on Sunday after taking part in the 8th Asia Cup hockey tournament.
Bangladesh finished seventh in the seven-nation spectacle, losing all three Pool matches against Japan (5-0), Malaysia (7-1), South Korea (9-0) and the classification play off match against India (11-1).
