Khalid Mahmud Mithu’s second feature film Jonakir Alo has been selected as Bangladesh’s entry in the Foreign Language Film category of 87th Oscars. The name of the selected film was revealed by the members of Oscars Selection Committee at a press conference at a restaurant in the capital on Thursday. Habibur Rahman Khan, noted filmmaker and chairman of the committee, made the declaration on behalf of the Federation of Bangladesh Film Societies. Members of the committee Abu Musa Debu, Reza Latif, Professor Abdus Selim and Rokeya Prachi also attended the press conference.
A production of Impress Telefilms, Jonakir Alo stars Gazi Rakayet, Bidya Sinha Saha Mim, Emon and Kalyan. The film revolves around a woman who feels passionately about taking care of children as part of her self-defined social responsibility. The plot of the movie thickens when the woman finds herself torn between adopting a child and her responsibility as a daughter-in-law of a conservative family.
The film has recently won the Best Director award at the Brasov International Film Festival (BRIFF), held between September 12 and 14 in Romania.
