Bangladesh will participate in the second edition of the Setouchi International Art Triennale from July 20 to September 1 in Kagawa, Japan.
Setouchi International Art Triennale is one of the largest international art festivals being held in Japan. The first triennale held in 2010 was a grand success attracting more than 930 thousands visitors from Japan and abroad.
The theme of the Bangladesh Project is ‘A message from the rivers to the sea far away – from the land of Golden Bengal to the Crimson Seto’, said the organisers at a press conference, held on Wednesday at the Press Information Department.
Cultural affairs minister Abul Kalam Azad, secretary of the ministry Suraiya Begum, Japanese ambassador Shiro Sadoshima, among others were present at the press conference.
Artworks by 100 local artists will be displayed in the summer session. Cultural affairs minister will lead the Bangladeshi team.
Thanks to Furam Kitagawa, general director of the Triennale, Bangladesh as a nation will participate in the festival and will dominate the center stage of this event, it is not difficult to foresee the monumental impact, especially on the images of Bangladesh, that this special event would generate.
Artists from across the will participate by individual qualification, the organisers said. According to the organisers, the director general of the Triannale is very impressed with the potential of the Bangladeshi artists.
There will be an independent volume dedicated only for ‘Bangladesh Project’ will also be published as a supplement to this guidebook.
The success of this project, without doubt, will cultivate a ground to nourish new images of Bangladesh, which, in time, will attract more foreign investors and tourists while widening the scope of business opportunities for the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in general, the organisers hoped.
The second edition of the triennale, which will be held in three separate seasons this year in three session-spring, summer and autumn- is expected to attract over one million visitors, with the extension of tenure and increase in the number of participating islands, as well as the heightened expectation engendered by the phenomenal success three years ago.
