The Bangladesh Under-16 women’s football team promised to give their best during the AFC Under-16 Women Championship qualifying round, which gets underway in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Jordan, Iran, United Arab Emirates, India and Bangladesh will play in the qualifying round with two teams progressing for the final round, which is scheduled in China next year.
Bangladesh girls took some hard training under coach Golam Rabbani Choton for the last two months and have played at least six warm-up matches against Narayanganj district women’s team and the national women’s team, tasting two wins against each.
Among the Under-16 players, nine have the experience of playing international matches for the Bangladesh U-14 women’s team.
‘We have a tendency of conceding defeat before facing the opponents but this time we will go there for win and fight till the last seconds,’ coach Choton at a press conference on Sunday.
Our initial target is to win against UAE and give our best against three other opponents in a bid to secure a final place,’ he said.
Team captain Monika Chakma echoed the same words.
‘We will play with our hearts out and will give hundred per cent to win the matches,’ she said.
Bangladesh will open their campaign against Jordan on October 15.
Local television channel, Channel 9 will live telecast all the ten matches.
