A 32-year old Bangladeshi cattle trader Rafiqul Islam was beaten to death by the Indian Border Security Force at Burimari border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat Sunday morning.
The victim hailed from the village Sologhoriya in Patgram upazila of the district. He was unarmed.
The police later recovered his body from the river Saniyazan near the Burimari border.
Baharuddin, his father, said that Rafiq was on his way back home with others with the cattle they had bought India.
He said that BSF troops chased them and everyone except his son safely returned to Bangladesh.
He said that BSF caught Rafique.
The police said that later neighbours found his body floating in the river.
The police recovered his body with help from the local people, said Patgarm police station officer-in-charge Murshidul Karim.
The police said that they sent his remains to Lalmonirhat General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The camp commander of Border Guard Bangladesh at Burimari subedar Based Miah said Rafiq was caught by BSF troops when he was returning to Bangladesh with six other cattle traders with the cattle they had bought from India.
