Robbery Attempt
Bangladeshi killed in US
A Bangladeshi national was shot to death in East Hartford, Connecticut, in the United States during an attempted robbery on Saturday night local time.
The victim Belal Tarafdar, 45, worked as a store clerk at the Circle H Food Mart on Burnside Avenue. He hailed from Moulvibazar. Police described the shooter as a male in his late teens to early 30s, wearing a shirt, shorts, and a baseball hat.
East Hartford police told The Daily Star by phone that Belal was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead on the spot. Police were yet to trace the gunman.
A friend of the victim, Nahid Wahed, said, “We lost our friend. Three kids lost their parent,” adding that Belal was loved by everyone in the community.
Belal was not supposed to work that night; he was covering for somebody else, said Wahed, as reported by NBC Connecticut yesterday.
“He was very nice. Every single person [said he was] very friendly. If anybody in the community need help, he’s right there,” added Wahed.
“Ban the guns. Do something…government, the president — they have to do something about it because…[people are being shot],” said Belal’s sister Anwara.
