The five Bangladeshi Olympians returned home from London on different flights on Sunday and Monday after being eliminated from the heats of their respective events.
Shooter Sharmin Akter Ratna, archer Imdadul Haque Milon and swimmer Mahfizur Rahman Sagar landed early Sunday while sprinter Mohon Khan arrived on Monday afternoon.
The other Bangladeshi Olympian, gymnast Syque Caesar, returned to USA where he lives with his parents.
Despite staging poor display by the Bangladeshis, comparing to the standard of Olympics, most of the athletes expressed their satisfaction on their individual outcome.
‘I made my best timing in Olympics and I am satisfied with that. We cannot expect a medal in my event in Olympics,’ said Mohon who clocked 11.25 seconds to finish his 100-meter race.
Mohon, who’s previous best timing was 11.56 seconds, stood 21st among 29 participants in his event.
‘I trained only for one and a half months for the Olympics while it takes others years to prepare an athlete. Moreover, they have the physical advantage of being taller and stronger. We had no chance in Olympics,’ said Mohon.
Echoing his compatriot, Sagar also said that they can win a medal in Asian Games at best as the Asian athletes are close to them in physical structure.
‘In my event 50-meter free-style, we can maximum win a medal in Asian Games. I do not think we can win a medal in the Olympics in near future,’ said Sagar.
