Bangladesh’s commitment to the Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework Agreement with the United States is ‘absolute’, said foreign secretary Mijarul Quayes on Sunday.
Quayes made the remark in response to a question about Dhaka’s stance on TIFCA at a regular press briefing in the foreign affairs ministry’s headquarters.
US ambassador Dan Mozena, at a discussion in the DCCI on Saturday, remarked that Bangladesh should sign the TIFCA deal with USA to get GSP and duty-free access of Bangladeshi
products to the American market.
‘Bangladesh is eager to continue the ongoing negotiation…We need another two rounds of negotiation to come to a conclusion,’ the foreign secretary told a correspondent.
Quayes, however, rejected the notion that the proposed deal has been delayed due to Bangladesh.
He said some little differences between Dhaka and Washington could be smoothed out through negotiation.
The Trade and Investment Cooperation Framework Agreement provides strategic frameworks and principles for dialogue on trade and investment issues between the United States and the other countries which have signed it.
