BB to release new Tk 20 note
Bangladesh Bank on Monday asked the commercial banks to keep open all or some of their branches on Saturday (August 18) to facilitate banking ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The BB issued a circular in this regard asking the banks to take adequate security measures to keep the branches open as per their own consideration on Saturday.
It also reminded the banks that they were also supposed to keep open foreign exchange related branches at air, sea, river and land ports on Fridays and Saturdays and authorised dealer branches that are engaged in export-import related transactions at other areas of the countries on Saturdays.
The central bank, meanwhile, decided to release a new note of Tk 20 denomination with the portrait of founding president of the country Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Wednesday.
The central bank has decided to release the Tk 20 new note to remove confusion between the Tk 500 and Tk 20 notes.
The new note will be available at the central bank headquarters on August 8.
It will be available in other branches of the central bank and that of commercial banks gradually.
