The Bangladesh Bank has asked the scheduled banks to keep open their branches which deal with the garment industries on October 12, a public holiday, so that the owners of the units can pay salaries, wages and festival bonuses for Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja to their workers and employees through the branches. To this end, the BB on September 30 issued circular to managing directors and chief executive officers of the banks asking them to keep open their branches located in the Dhaka city, Ashulia, Savar, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chittagong on October 12.
A BB official told New Age on Wednesday that the central bank had taken the decision so that the garment workers of the areas could receive salaries, wages and bonuses uninterruptedly.
