Banks to remain open Saturday
Tax offices on Friday, Saturday
Bangladesh Bank on Thursday asked the scheduled banks to keep open their branches on Saturday to facilitate the filing of nominations for the upcoming national election on January 5.
On the other hand, all field level offices of income tax of the National Board of Revenue will also remain open on Friday and Saturday for providing income tax clearance certificates to the candidates of the elections.
The NBR made the decision on Thursday on the request of the Election Commission.
The BB issued a circular to managing directors and chief executive officers of all banks asking them to keep open all their branches on November 30 to facilitate the submission of nomination papers.
Banks in Bangladesh usually remain closed on Fridays and Saturday.
The banks will have to remain open as poll candidates need to deposit a pay-order of Tk 20,000 to the Election Commission along with their candidature papers.
The last date for filing nominations is December 2.
