Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday asked the scheduled banks to keep their all branches open on Saturday (June 29) in a bid to facilitate the taxpayers so that they
could pay their income taxes within this month.
The BB issued a circular to managing directors and chief executive officers of all banks asking them to keep their all branches open in the interest of collecting the national revenue.
The central bank gave the directive as the deadline of giving the income tax is June 30, a BB official told New Age.
The BB asked the banks to take measures in encashing the pay-orders and cheques relating to the income tax.
It also suggested that the banks ensure adequate security when their branches would remain open on Saturday.
The branches of the scheduled bank usually remain closed on Friday and Saturday — the weekly holidays.
The central bank has recently asked the banks to keep their authorised dealer branches open on Saturday.
