The prison directorate has asked families of 35 Barisal central jail guards to vacate their makeshift quarters within 72 hours.
The jail guards last month were given 15 days to vacate their premises and at last have been given three days as they failed to follow the previous order.Kamal Hossain, senior jail superintendent of the Barisal central jail, acknowledging the ultimatum, said the order reached here Friday following the recent death of two jail guards in electrocution at there makeshift quarter.
He authorities will construct building for the families of jail guards, he added.
Jail office and related sources said 161 jail guards deployed at the Barisal central jail to control about 1,300 prisoners.
Of the jail guards, 35 were living with family in makeshift structures inside the jail boundary using loose temporary electricity connections for power supply amid risks of electrocution.
Out of the 35 jail guards, 16 have been transferred to other places, but their families stay here, sources added.
One of the affected jail guards said they were living in the makeshift quarters as the authorities failed to provide safe accommodation for them.
