The spirit of the popular Tagore song, Madhura Basanta Esechhey Madhura Milana Ghatate, which glorifies love and the beauty of spring, resonated in the city’s sky on Thursday.
Thousands of youths in colourful attires and flowers in hands celebrated the first day of Basanta (spring), the season of beauty and resurrection, which has been glorified in poems and songs.Celebrating the day, various cultural organisations presented romantic songs, poems and dance recitals in different venues in the city.
Like the previous years, Jatya Basanta Utjapan Parishad organised a daylong programme at Bakultala at the faculty of fine arts of Dhaka University where various cultural organisations presented music, dance and recitations glorifying love and the beauty of the season.
The day’s event began in the morning with a melodious esraj recital by Ekram Hossain, who played beautiful raga basanta. Glorifying the season, artistes of Surer Dhara and Sur Saptak in chorus presented Tagore songs Ogo Grihabashi Khola Daar Khola and Tumi Ki Dakhina Paban respectively.
Artistes of Satyen Sen Shilpi Goshthi presented another chorus titled Drimi Drimi Taak Drimi Drimi Taak, which presents the beauty of the hill tracts in the spring.
Noted Nazrul singer Khairul Anam Shakil received audience acclaims presenting the beautiful Nazrul song Basanta Elo Re while Indrani Sen rendered the popular Tagore song Aha Aji E Basantey.
The resurrection of life in the nature with the beginning of spring was successfully transported in the colourful dance recitals presented by troupes such as Nrityam, Nritya Nandan, Spandan. The group dance presented by the Spandan artistes synchronised with the song Dhol Baaje Bangladesher Dhol created a joyous ambience in the first morning of the spring.
The artistes of Nrityanandan and Nataraz also entertained the audience presenting colourful group dance based on the two rhythmic songs titled Dol Phaguner Dol Legechhe and Sabar Range Rang Milate respectively. The main attractions of both of the performances were the incorporation of the rhythms of the songs through synchorised sounds of ghungroos.
Dhrubatan artistes presented a recital based on the traditional song Ailo Phaguner-e Rang Milate while the artistes of Bhabna presented an experimental recital synchronised with popular pop song Rangiye Diye Jao.
Thousands of people enjoyed the programme. ‘I really enjoyed the cultural show presented in the first morning of the spring, which I always enjoy,’ said Farhana Rahman from Mohammadpur.
The evening session of the day’s celebrations programme continued simultaneously at three venues including Bakultala, Rabindrasarobar in Dhanmondi and Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka.
Artistes of different organisations presented music, dance and recitation glorifying love and the beauty of the spring in those programmes.
