Batsmen continued to rule the second round of the National Cricket League as three more centuries were struck on the second day, including a double century by promising Barisal batsman Mosaddek Hossain at Khulna on Sunday. Mossadek hit an unbeaten 200 runs as Barisal, resuming on 295-5, declared their first innings for 527-9, at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Mohammad Mithun missed out on a similar feat in Dhaka but his career-best 186 was enough for Khulna to take the commanding position against Dhaka Metropolis at Mirpur.
The visitors, resuming on 227-5, scored 455 all-out before Mustafizur Rahman picked three wickets to reduced Dhaka Metropolis to 78-4 at stumps.
In a tournament dominated by batsmen, leg-spinner Jubair Hossain carried the flag of bowlers picking 4-104 that helped Chittagong gain a 75-run lead against Rajshahi at Rajshahi.
Nadif Chowdhury struck 111 runs as Dhaka made 449 runs before three wickets haul by their left-arm spinner Mosharraf Hossain reduced Rangpur to 98-3 at Bogra.
Barisal v Sylhet
Mossadek, who resumed on 31, hit 15 fours and seven sixes eased into his third double century innings of the year, helped Barisal score 527-9 before they declared.
Sylhet, however, made a solid reply reaching
112-0 to trail Barisal by 415 runs with all 10 wickets in hand.
Opener Imtiaz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 51 alongside unbeaten 58 of his partner Shahnaj Ahmed.
Khulna v Dhaka Metro
Mithun, unbeaten on 87 overnight, surpassed his previous career highest 126 runs and missed his maiden double hundred by a whisker as he fell just 14 runs short off that mark.
Mithun hit 24 fours in his 270-ball innings got able support from Under-19 captain Mehedi Hasan and skipper Abdur Razzak, who made 67 and 45 runs respectively as Khulna were all out for 455 runs on the stroke of tea break.
Mustifiz later took three quick wickets to put Khulna on 78-4 at stumps trailing by 377 runs.
Dhaka v Rangpur
Nadif Chowdhury smashed 111 runs with 11 fours and a six as Dhaka made 449 runs after resuming at 265-6 against defending champions Rangpur.
Mossharaf Hossain’s 3-33 later put them into a driving seat as Rangpur were reduced to 98-3, still trailing Dhaka by 351 runs at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium.
Chittagong v Rajshahi
Leg-spinner Jubair Hossain picked 4-104 as Chittagong took a vital first innings lead of 75 runs against Rajshahi at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium.
Former champions Rajshahi, replying to Chittagong’s 383 runs, were all out for 308 runs, despite a strong start.
Junaid Siddique (81) and Nazmul Hasan (61) made a blistering 141-run opening stand before Jubair and left-arm spinner Nabil Samad, who picked 3-50, triggered a collapse.
One-down batsman Farhad Hossain made 69 for the hosts.
Earlier, Chittagong resumed on 346-8 and added 37 runs with their remaining two wickets.
