Bangladesh’s recent failure in their home series against South Africa is due to their batsmen’s inability to click and there is no need to press the panic button, said batsman Nasir Hossain on Saturday. High-flying Bangladesh were brought down to earth by South Africa, who completely outplayed the hosts in two Twenty20 internationals and the first one-day international.Prior to the series Tigers were riding high after their success in the home series against Pakistan and India and they were expected to play a similarly competitive series against the Proteas.
However, Tigers failed to get any significant result in the series so far and were completely dominated by the visitors that looked to have made the Bangladesh Cricket Board going impatient.
As a result, BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Saturday held a meeting with the cricketers and the coaching staff and members of the technical committee to know what the problems are inside the team.
Nasir believes that there is nothing wrong in their game and just a good display by the batsmen will bring the team back on track.
‘I think everything was fine, the way we were playing,’ he said at Mirpur.
‘The biggest thing is that the batsmen couldn’t click initially. If we can score runs then I don’t think there will be any problem,’ said Nasir.
Nasir insisted that the Tigers had a bad day in the opening game of the three-match ODI series and need to come out from that when they take on the South Africans in today’s match.
‘I think that the last one-day we had a bad day,’ he said. ‘We have to comeback from here and nothing has changed. I think everything is fine with the players.’
The 23-year old right-hander said that the only problem in the series so far is the wicket, where he believes batsmen need to be patient.
‘Actually during India, Pakistan series the wicket was a bit different, in those series you could just go and hit,’ said Nasir.
‘You can’t do that now and you need to stay on the wicket for a while. We are trying to learn to take that amount of time on the wicket. That’s pretty much it.’
Young South African paceman Kagiso Rabada ripped through the Tigers batting line-up in the first match with 6-16 including a hat-trick on his debut match
But Nasir insisted Rabada is not someone who cannot be handled by the Tigers despite his record-breaking show.
‘If you see Rabada’s wickets there were a few soft dismissals such as Liton [Kumar] and Soumya [Sarkar].
‘He got one or two wickets with good deliveries. I don’t think he is anything special and is not a kind of bowler whom we can’t handle,’ he said.
