The Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday inaugurated its 10th branch in Mymensingh in a bid to monitor more than 600 branches of different commercial banks in the zone.
BB governor Atiur Rahman inaugurated the branch as the chief guest while its deputy governor Md Abul Kashem, Planning Commission member MA Sattar Mandal and Mymensingh branch general manager Md Abdul Hamid were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Atiur said, ‘The 10th branch of the BB will play a vital role in expanding trade and commerce in the six potential districts of the greater Mymensingh zone.’
The districts are Mymensingh, Tangail, Kishorgonj, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrokona.
Abdul Hamid told new Age that the Mymensingh branch of the BB had started its primary activities on December 17, 2012. A total of 122 employees are supposed to work there, he added.
The other nine BB branches are located at Sadarghat and Motijheel in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur, Barisal, Khulna and Bogra.
