Sends list of 25
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has sent to the home ministry a list of 25 international bookies, who might arrive in the country targeting the ongoing ICC World Cup tournament, for investigation.
Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, joint secretary (political) of the home ministry, said they have asked the immigration authority to examine the travel documents of all foreigners to find out whether any bookie has arrived.
They are not yet sure regarding the bookies’ arrival in the country, he said adding that immigrations are kept on alert providing them data of the bookies.
State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku said BCB has sent passport numbers and some other particulars of the bookies to the ministry.
Dr Kamal said steps have been taken to ensure that no bookie can get in touch with the captains or officials of the cricket teams.
International Cricket Council (ICC) earlier sent the list to BCB for taking cautionary steps.
A source at the home ministry said all the bookies are foreign nationals but declined to give their details.
