Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday suspended national cricketer Shahadat Hossain from all forms of the game as police filed a case on allegations that he and his wife beat their 11-year-old maid, said a BCB official on Sunday. Police are still searching the 29-year-old paceman who went into hiding on last week after the accusation that he ‘tortured and abused’ the maid who is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College hospital.
‘We are temporarily suspending Shahadat from all forms of BCB activities,’ BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told reporters at Mirpur on Sunday.
‘He is going through a police investigation and until that is resolved he will not be allowed to take part in any game or enjoy practice facilities that are under BCB’s authority.’
The suspension means Shahadat, who missed the recent series against India and South Africa after twisting his ankle in a Test match in May against Pakistan, cannot play in the upcoming National Cricket League starting later this week.
Shahadat, who played 38 Tests and 51 one-day internationals for Bangladesh, is now all but certain to miss the two-match Test series against Australia starting next month.
