Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan hinted at the inclusion of Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, and veteran Mahmudullah in the Tigers’ squad for the forthcoming ICC World Cup, scheduled to be in October-November in India.
Mosaddek, who played his last one-day international against Zimbabwe in Harare in August 2022, performed well in the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League for champions Abahani Limited.
In 16 games, the right-hander scored 395 runs at an average of 32.19 in 13 innings.
His all-round performance of 63 runs and four wickets guided the Sky-Blues to register an eight-run win over arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club in the league phase of the competition.
On the other hand, Mahmudullah and Afif, who were axed from the national team following their dismal performance against England at, home in March, also managed to prove their worth in the competition.
Mahmudullah scored 510 runs for Mohammedan from 16 games at an average of 36.42, with six fifties, while Afif made 550 runs from 15 matches at an average of 55.00, which made the BCB president think about their inclusion in the squad for the World Cup.
‘Mahmudullah, Afif, and Mosaddek might play for the national team any time, although they are not in the squad right now,’ Nazmul told reporters in Mirpur on Thursday.
They are also valued for being all-rounders, which has further increased their chances of getting into the World Cup squad.
‘If we play with five bowlers and if anyone gets injured, then who will bowl? So, it is better if there is an all-rounder,’ he added.
