Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan remained tight-lipped on the recent allegations of spot-fixing, preferring to keep his cards close to his chest before the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit concludes their investigation.
While talking to reporters at his residence on Friday, Nazmul revealed that they will wait till ACSU disclose their findings after which they can undertake the proper action regarding the recent spot-fixing accusations which has shocked everyone related with Bangladesh cricket.
‘On Monday I will get a response from them [ACSU]. We will sit with them on Monday after the investigation is over. I will come to know what’s going on. As far as the Bangladesh Premier League, spot-fixing or match-fixing are concerned, everything depends on their investigation,’ said Nazmul.
‘We have not done any investigation on our own so we entrusted them with the responsibility. So saying anything before that is difficult at the moment.’
On being asked what sort of punishment will be dished out to the accused, Nazmul iterated that if any wrongdoing is proved, then that guilty individual will be dealt with severely.
‘When Hansie Cronje or [Mohammad] Azharuddin’s name came about in the beginning then we couldn’t believe it at all. Kapil Dev and even Salman Butt, so many players were suspected.’
‘Even Shane Warne’s name came about. Majority of the countries, whenever they received proof they took a stern decision. I think this is the right way to go. This is the way to stop this.’
‘Actually there are two factors. Firstly, regarding the BPL, ACSU is doing their investigation.’
‘Secondly, today [Friday] I saw in the paper that a couple of other players’ names have also come up, while they are not related to the BPL.’
‘At this point of time, all the information that has been published, what is their source? Is this true or not I can’t say, nobody can give a guarantee,’ he said.
‘They have brought Bangladesh’s cricket to a different level today. They have done a lot. They were really good players at one point of time. I am not worried because firstly they are not playing in our side at the moment.’
‘Secondly, since I haven’t found any proof, I don’t believe it. I still believe that they haven’t done anything wrong.’
‘We need to understand if [Mohammad] Ashraful was introduced with a bad intent or what indeed was the real cause, we need to find that out,’ said the cricket administrator.
Nazmul added that they were sincere from the beginning in order to uproot the poisoned tree.
‘We spent $50,000 and brought ACSU here for the second BPL because we received information that something wrong was going on. So we wanted to alleviate the problem right from the beginning before it worsened,’ he said.
The BCB president later in a statement urged all to show some patience in this case.
‘For the sake of the inquiry I request everyone to be patient while the probe is still underway.’
