The Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to start the election process asking for the councillorship from the clubs and other organisations on August 12, said the officials on Monday.
The decision came at the seventh meeting of the executive ad-hoc committee at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium where several other major decisions were also taken.
‘We will ask for the councillorship on August 12. We will also request the National Sports Council to take initiatives for starting the election process,’ said Jalal Yunus, chairman of the media committee, after the meeting.
‘We will submit the letter to the NSC in this regard very soon, probably in the next two days,’ said Jalal.
Among other key decisions, the BCB decided to complete 50 per cent of the outstanding payment of the local cricketers in the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League before the Eid-ul-Fitr.
‘As the guarantor, the BCB will complete the payment of the local cricketers up to 50 per cent,’ said Jalal.
The BCB also announced fresh dates for the Dhaka Premier League’s player recruitment programme and the commencement of the league, which had already been deferred four times.
‘The player transfers would take place on August 25 while the league will start from September 3.
‘We are confident about holding the league as the club members have assured the president of taking part in it,’ said Jalal.
Earlier, the BCB had declared that the player recruitment programme will be held on July 25 and the DPL will start on August 29 but had to drop their plan under pressure from the clubs.
The BCB official informed that the clubs had also decided to play the league without the national players which raised a prospect for the BPL being staged in January.
Earlier on Sunday, BCB tournament committee chairman Naimur Rahman told reporters that there is little scope for BPL to be staged before the ICC World Twenty20.
‘A new slot had opened up as the clubs agreed to play the league without national players. If that is the case, then the BPL can probably take place in January,’ said Jajal adding that they hope to finalise the domestic calendar in the next three days.
The BCB decided not to consider an appeal for clemency from umpire Nadir Shah who is serving a 10-year ban for corrupt conduct.
