League to start on July 1, rotational policy for players
The Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to start the Dhaka Premier League from July 1 with the players’ recruitment to be made through rotational policy on June 20,
said BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Tuesday.
All the representatives of the DPL clubs sat with the BCB boss at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium to bring an end to the stalemate surrounding the league.
‘The grading of the players and their price was presented to the clubs and they will decide soon,’ Nazmul told reporters at Mirpur.
‘We hope to finalise that by day after tomorrow (Thursday),’ said Nazmul.
‘Actually it is questionable whether we can call it an auction but it will be quite similar to the National Cricket League where the likes of Dhaka Dynamites and other teams took part,’ said Nazmul.
‘A team will be selected by lottery and after taking the players, the teams will have to wait for their chance.’
‘It will provide balance as most of the teams will have their chance to book two major stars from the national team,’ he added.
The BCB had prepared a players draft consisting 182 players under the categories A, B and C.
Category A comprises of 24 players while grade B has 57 players with grade C containing 101 players.
‘We are allocating Tk 20 lakh (category A), Tk 15 lakh (category B) and Tk 10 lakh (category C),’ said Nazmul.
Nazmul stated that they understood two or three players might incur financial losses in the process but apart from that the other cricketers will be benefitted.
‘We understand that it might hamper two or three players financially,’ said Nazmul.
‘But I hope that they (cricketers) will participate in the league. It will be a win-win situation for both parties,’ added Nazmul.
Mushfiqur Rahim, along with 21 other national cricketers, gathered at the SBNS on Monday to discuss the payment module of the league and it was learnt that they had decided to boycott the league if the auction takes place.
Mushfiq met the board president in the evening and expressed his reservation as they were the victims of non-payment in the last edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
‘There will be an agreement between the players and the clubs that will also allow the BCB to look after the matter,’ said Nazmul.
‘Clubs will carry out the payments as it is not a franchise-based league,’ he added.
‘The players will have to pay the income tax,’ said Nazmul.
Nazmul admitted that the duration of the league will take a long time to complete because of the shortage of fields as well as the upcoming rainy season and political instability.
‘It will be bodily shifted. It might be lengthy and for that they might get compensation,’ said Nazmul.
‘We are yet to decide the amount for the clubs,’ he added.
He also assured to fix the matter between the players who had already taken money from the clubs for their service this season.
A club can rope in an indefinite number of foreign cricketers but can only play three players in one game.
