The Bangladesh Cricket Board is in no hurry to send Taskin Ahmed for testing to be get cleared by the International Cricket Council for his illegal bowling action, said officials on Sunday.
Taskin along with spin bowler Arafat Sunny was suspended from bowling in international cricket after his action was found illegal during the ICC World Twenty20 in India early in the year.
Taskin, who is allowed to play in domestic cricket, appeared a test before the bowling review committee members on Sunday following his extensive works in recent months to remodel his action.
Earlier, it was announced that Taskin and Arafat will appea0r in front of the ICC accredited laboratory as soon as BCB found them to be ready.
But as it stands there seems to be hardly any rush.
‘We need time to assess him,’ bowling review committee member Omar Khaled told reporters in Mirpur. ‘If he is not sent for testing in August it will be in the following one or two months,’ he said.
Taskin bowled at least 24 deliveries during his test on Sunday, which include length ball, followed by yorker, slower and bouncer, which appeared to have left the review committee somewhat satisfied.
‘He [Taskin] looks to be perfect with the naked eyes,’ said Omar.
‘Even what I have seen before he never looked to have a problem. Why he was reported I don’t know,’ said Omar.
‘It was told that he was having problem with bouncers but today it looked to be simple and beautiful and there was no problem,’ he said.
The paceman was uncertain when he will appear on the test and said that he will only go there when his coaches will feel confident about him.
Though his bowling was called into question in international cricket,
Taskin played successfully in local cricket for Abahani Limited in Dhaka Premier League.
He claimed 26 wickets in 15 matches – the third highest in the league – which played a key role in Abahani’s winning feat.
While his fellow suspect Arafat Sunny was reported again in Dhaka League, Taskin completed the league without being questioned once.
‘I am confident because experts are working with me,’ said Taskin.
‘Last time they said that I have improved and now they are also saying thus. It certainly raises my confidence.
‘I hope that within short time I can go for the testing,’ he said.
Nasir Ahmed, BCB’s manager information system, who is conducting the video session, said that they are finding it hard to get the exact angle due to using 2-d system.
‘There is a technological difference as we are doing it with two dimension camera while they [the biomechanical experts] are going to test him with three dimension, so naturally there will be some difference and we cannot say hundred per cent with the available resources,’ said Nasir.
‘But we can judge how much he has improved and how much he has adapted with the things,’ he said.
Arafat, who was also due to appear in the test, did not take part as had a minor operation on his shoulder and will appear on it on next Wednesday.
