The Bangladesh Cricket Board is desperately looking to hold one of the last two matches of ongoing series against Zimbabwe in Chittagong under floodlight to fulfil its commitment to the visitors.
The BCB was forced to abandon the day-night arrangement for Monday’s third game in Dhaka due to floodlight problems at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium and held it in daytime instead.
It left them heavily embarrassed as the incident also cast a shadow on their preparation for the upcoming World Cup. Officials, however, said a bilateral agreement with Zimbabwean board, which stipulates a day-night game, is their only obligation at the moment.
‘We have still a chance to hold a day-night game. The floodlight in Chittagong is working fine, so we can easily hold the fourth or the fifth game under lights,’ said the tour organising secretary, Gazi Ashraf Hossain.
‘However, we have to talk to the Zimbabwe team, the broadcasting company Nimbus and the match referee. If all agree to our proposal, we may hold a match under floodlight,’ he said.
Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, a BCB director and Chittagong venue chairman, said they are ready to host a day-night match if the BCB really desires.
‘I can tell you nothing like the incident in Dhaka will happen here. We have enough lights, which are even surplus to requirement. For the last four five days we have been checking the lights and everything is fine,’ he said.
