Three sports journalist bodies in separate statements on Thursday protested the behaviour of Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan and his move of restricting the press freedom.
The journalist bodies reacted after four media houses were denied an entry to cover an unscheduled press conference of Nazmul at his Beximco office on Friday.Nazmul in his press conference categorically mentioned that henceforth all BCB press conference will be invitational and only selected media will be allowed to cover that.
Bangladesh Sports Press Association, a platform of sports journalists and writers, expressed its concern following the BCB move saying that it was against press freedom and a restriction on free flow of information.
‘We strongly protest this move’, BSPA said in a statement. ‘The BCB is a national organisation and people from all walks of life have interest about its activities. Cricket is also the symbol of our national unity. Here the creation of any division and a biased and hostile attitude towards any particular media is completely unexpected.’
Bangladesh Sports Journalist Association, an organistion of professional sports journalists, said the behaviour of BCB president was ‘indecent’ and ‘unfortunate.’
‘The recent behaviour of BCB towards media is giving a wrong message, which is unfortunate,’ it said.
Bangladesh Sports Journalist Community, a parallel body of BSJA, also protested the behaviour of Nazmul.
