Working committee finalises draft structure
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has finalised draft structure of the new selection policy for the national cricket team in their attempt to resolve any kind of dispute, said official on Thursday.
BCB’s working committee approved the proposed structure of new selection committee which will comprises seven to eight members including four regular selectors.National team coach, manager captain and cricket operations chief will complete the panel as an ex-officio.
According to the new selection policy, four-member selection panel will form the squad before submitting it to BCB’s cricket operation chairman for approval.
Thereafter, BCB’s cricket operation chairman will provide the team to the head coach, national team manager and team captain (if selected), who will then discus it among them.
If the team of the selection panel receives green signal from all quarters it will be sent to the BCB president for final approval while if there is any dispute regarding any players the matter will be forwarded to board.
The decision was taken largely due to avoid controversies and create a sense of belongings, said BCB’s working committee chief Enayet Hossain.
‘It [new selection policy] will help us to resist any kind of dispute within the team management,’ he said.
‘In recent past we had seen some kind of problem within the team management regarding the selection policy. So we decided to introduce the new selection policy,’ said Enayet.
Enayet was indicating the recent selection row between chief selector Faruk Ahmed and national team head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe.
The Sri Lankan coach publicly accused the selectors of not giving him the team of his choice during the World Cup 2015 while forced the inclusion and omission of some other players in recent series.
BCB’s working committee also approved the proposed structure of the nine-member review committee for bowlers with suspect bowling action.
BCB will appoint a chairman for the review committee comprised with three independent members, bowling coach, trainer, physio and a computer analyst.
BCB had earlier announced that the bowling review committee will be in place from the start of the Dhaka Premier League though they are yet to form it.
The working committee also discussed about the future of national bowling coach Heath Streak, who, according to media reports is expected to quit from his post to join India’s National Cricket Academy.
Streak, who is currently in India for a stint with Indian Premier League franchise Gujarat Lions, is contracted by the BCB to work for 450 days over two years, which will be expired in June.
‘He [Streak] is a free man and can apply anywhere. If he is interested we might consider while if he isn’t we will go for other options without hesitating a moment,’ said Enayet.
