Eyewitness said that supporters of two rival groups of BCL – Ulka and 69 – locked into heated altercation over taking control of the train’s coach at the university railway station at about 2:00 p.m.
At a stage of the heated exchange supporters of both the factions initially involved in scuffle and later chased each other with lethal weapons. The attacks and counter attacks lasted for nearly half an hour leaving several students wounded.
Security people on patrol rushed to the spot and drove the warring groups away. Three of the injured students were taken to Chittagong University Hospital and freed after first aid.
The BCL workers not involved in the trouble staged demonstration at the university railway station and halted the university train for nearly half an hour demanding stern action against the culprits. They also blocked the main approach road of the university.
The melee made the general students of the university panicked who had to run for safety.
