The Chittagong University authorities on Wednesday temporarily expelled an activist of the ruling Awami League-backed Chhatra League on charge of harassing a girl student.
The expelled BCL man is Masum alias Moon Rozario who harassed a student
of sociology on the campus on Monday.Demanding permanent suspension of the accused BCL men, several hundred female students brought out a procession in front of Pritilata Hall. Later
the students formed a human chain in front of
CU administration building.
They also besieged the office of CU vice-chancellor Professor Anwarul Azim and confined him in his room for two hours.
Later the agitating students placed a memorandum to VC when he assured them of expelling the accused.
Later, in an emergency meeting of CU disciplinary committee, the student was expelled form the
university temporarily, said sources in the committee.
CU proctor Siraj Uddowla said they had expelled the student as the three-member committee, formed to probe the harassment incident, found him guilty.
They committee will take final steps against the student in a meeting on Saturday, he also said.
The police on Tuesday arrested Masum alias Moon Rozario, 25, 2nd year student of sociology department and also a follower of CU unit president Mamun group, and Mohammed Ali, 22, after the victim lodged a case against them with the Hathazari police Monday night.
