Fortnightly Anyadin, in association with Bexi Fabrics, arranged an Eid fashion show on the evening of 24 July at the Hall of Fame auditorium of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city. In an effort to diversify the Eid fashion and to promote local brands, Anyadin started the first episode of this show back in 1997 marking the jovial occasion of Eid. In 2002, famous fabrics brand Bexi Fabrics joined hands with the fortnightly for arranging the fashion show.With the passage of time, yet another Eid is knocking on the door. To anyone, it is an occasion to celebrate in trendy attire. Like every year, the local fashion houses have been busy displaying their Eid collection. A total of 15 leading fashion houses of the country- Nabarupa, Nipun, Anjan’s, Rang, Miabiwi, Kay Kraft, Sadakalo, Adreyot, Kazi Kraft, Salsabil, Shoilpik, Women’s Fashion World, Sinai, Anyamela and McCoy- displayed their Eid collection. Besides, Designer’s Forum and Bexi Fabrics also took part in the fashion show. The fashion evening opened with a dance performance by the artistes of Nrityananda. Choreographed by Sharmila Bandyopadhyay, the dance number was set on three songs, including Pagla hawar badal diney, Elo anjono ghono kunjo chhayay and Esho shyamolo sundoro. Chief Editor of Anyadin Masum Rahman opened the evening with his welcome speech. “We have been arranging fashion shows on the occasion of Eid for the last 15 years. Now, we are looking forward to expand its edge,” he said. “For the first time, the fashion show is deviated from competition to only presenting the prominent fashion houses and their products ahead of Eid,” he added.
Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Channel i, also spoke at the programme. He stressed the need for government patronage for local fashion houses.
At the event, the organisers honoured Abdul Mannan, a weaver (Tanti) from Sirajganj, with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to weaving industry. Mazharul Islam, editor of Anyadin and Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith handed the award to him. The award comprised a crest, Uttariya and a cheque for Tk 25000. At first, Nabarupa and Nipun displayed their exclusive outfit to begin the catwalk of the fashion show. One after another, leading models of the country presented collection of fashionable traditional wear of participating houses, including sari, kameez, punjabi and fatua. Screen print, Kalka, block print, kantha stitch and embroidery, among others, were in the collection.
The crowd was dazzled with the ramp models’ colourful costumes. Popular fashion outlets displayed superb fashion queues with the use of Bangla folk songs and others. In between the ramp queues, leading singers of the country enthralled the full-house audience with their tunes and stylish moves. The featured performers of the evening were Arfin Rumey, Maksud, Shaon and Mila. The heads of the participating fashion houses received crests from invited guests, including poet Mahadev Saha, litterateur Syed Shamsul Haque and singers Mustafa Zaman Abbasi and Ferdousi Rahman, among others. The artistes of dance troupe Eagles, along with popular artiste Mim, rendered a dance number to conclude the exciting evening.
