The Bangladesh Football Federation on Monday announced the 26-member preliminary squad for Bangabandhu Gold Cup international football tournament, scheduled in January.
The squad includes striker Aminur Rahman Sajib of Abahani, winger Rubel Miah of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and defender Atiqur Rahman Fahad of Abahani. They will join the 23 players who were part of the squad for the friendly match against Japan U-21s held earlier this month.
The training camp of the preliminary squad will begin on January 1 at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) in Savar.
It has been learnt that the size of the preliminary squad that will begin training under coach Saiful Bari Titu, might be increased by three players in the first week of January.
Titu informed that a few of the senior players will need to work their socks out to get into full fitness in time for the Bangabandhu Gold Cup, slated to begin on January 16.
‘Most of the Sheikh Jamal players looked in good shape in the match against Busan I’Park,’ he told reporters.
‘But those who are from other clubs, especially the senior players, will need to improve their fitness because some of them have not been involved in match practice for a long time,’ said the interim coach.
