The Bangladesh Football Federation on Wednesday lifted the ban of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club coach Maruful Haque, four months after he was controversially suspended for an outburst against the officials. The BFF on August 24 had banned Maruf for one-year for criticising officials while working as the coach Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra during the last Bangladesh Premier League. The BFF later reduced ban to six months which was scheduled to expire on February 27.
Despite the ban, Maruf continued his work as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi coach and helped the side to lift Bhutan’s Kings Cup recently. It inspired the BFF hardliners to soften their attitude towards Maruf and they asked him to seek mercy again.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin signed his mercy petition on Wednesday, paving the way for Maruf to sit in the dugout during Jamal’s friendly match against K-League side Busan I’Park on December 27.
A BFF official said the decision will need a formal approval from the executive committee.
Maruf was grateful to BFF president Salahuddin for lifting his ban.
‘I would like to thank Salahuddin Bhai for lifting my ban two months before the actual date,’ he told reporters in his reaction.
