The Bangladesh national basketball team returned to Dhaka on Wednesday night after the postponement of the 27th FIBA Asia qualifying basketball tournament which was scheduled to take place in India.
The FIBA Asia qualifying basketball tournament was postponed on May 9 even though the Bangladesh team went to India the sameday. General secretary of the Bangladesh Basketball Federation, AK Sarker confirmed that they did not receive any official declaration until May 12.
‘We did not know whether the tournament was postponed on May 9 or not but we got the official declaration on May 12. That is why we stayed back in Kolkata,’ said Sarker on Wednesday.
They had originally planned to play two matches against a club from West Bengal but when inquired, Sarker failed to inform the club’s name. He also said that one game was called off due to rain and the other one was stopped after the game reached its halfway point.
However, the Asia qualifying basketball tournament was postponed after two of the four participating teams, Pakistan and Afghanistan were denied visa to enter India. The tournament was scheduled for May 13-15 in New Delhi.
