Team BJMC opened their Bangladesh Premier Football League campaign with a 2-1 win over Feni Soccer Club at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
Forward Aminur Rahman Sajib and Nigerian midfielder Uche Felix scored for the victors while Benin forward Wassiou Okalawon grabbed the consolation goal for Soccer Club.
BJMC, semi-finalist in the recently concluded Federation Cup, dominated the match but had to be content with a 2-1 scoreline due to the profligacy of their forwards.
Soccer Club, on the other hand, were disorganised in their first league game as they struggled to exert any pressure on their opponents.
The Soccer Club defenders were busy resisting one attack after another with the offensive trio of BJMC creating several opportunities.
But BJMC had to wait till the second half to register their first goal after a series of chances went begging in the first half.
Receiving a through-pass from Guinean forward Ismael Bangoura in the 9th minute, Sajib tried a placing shot past the onrushing Soccer Club
goalkeeper Ujjal but his effort went wide.
In the 16th minute, a fine cross from BJMC’s Shahanur Rahman Rony found an unmarked Shakil Ahmed but Shakil’s shot from six yards out hit the crossbar.
After resumption though, Sajib made no mistake and gave BJMC a 1-0 lead, slotting the ball past Ujjal after receiving a through-pass from Felix.
Felix doubled the lead in the 67th minute, his shot beating Ujjal in a one-on-one situation after coolly controlling a long-ball forward from Shakil.
Four minutes before stipulated time, Okalawon reduced the arrears and powerfully headed in a cross from Akram Uz Zaman Liton from the right flank.
BJMC coach Ali Asgar Nasir, however, expressed his satisfaction with his players but was not quite happy with the team management.
‘Due to some reasons the management did not give their full support to the team that made my job difficult but I was happy with my players who performed well by putting all the dissatisfaction behind,’ said Nasir adding that, ‘I am struggling with my foreign and local players because they did not get their wages so it was tough to motivate them.’
