Pro-hartal activists torched at least 10 vehicles including a police car and hurled several cocktails in different areas in the city on Saturday ahead of the BNP-led 18-party’s 84-hour countrywide hartal demanding caretaker government.
Quoting witnesses, police alleged that at around 11am, pro-hartal activists torched a BRTC bus in front of Government Titumir College at Mohakhali.
On information, a fire-fighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Hartal supporters also torched a double-decker bus in Kutubkhali area under Jatrabari police station at about 9am.
Getting information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the flame.
However, no casualty were reported in the two separate incidents.
Meanwhile, activists of BNP and its front organizations brought out a procession at North Badda in the capital.
On information, police went to the spot and dispersed the BNP activists firing rubber bullets.
Later, protesting police attacks, unruly BNP supporters allegedly hurled at least 15 coktails and torched a bus at North Badda bus stand at about 8:45 am. No one were arrested as the miscreants managed to flee the spots before police arrived.
Meanwhile, pro-hartal activists also set fire to a passenger bus near Golapshah Mazar in Gulstan around 5:10pm. But police put out the fire shortly after with the help of local people.
In old part of the city, pro-hartal activists hurled at least five cocktails in front of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court around 3pm.
Miscreants set fire to a police car in front of Rajarbagh Police Lines in the city at around 12:30pm.
According to sub-inspector Fauzia Khanam, on information, police rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
At around 1:30pm, pro-hartal activists allegedly set a bus on fire at Rupnagor of Mirpur.
Meanwhile miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus of ETC Paribahan when it was taking passengers from Shahbagh Bus Stand at around 6pm leaving at least three people injured.
Quoting injured passenger Abdur Razaak Mithu, an employee of Meghna Life Insurance, hospital sources said when they had got into the bus, some unidentified miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on it.
He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but he could not inform where two other injured persons were admitted.
However, SI Daud Hossain of Shahbagh Police Station claimed that he had no information.
Miscreants also torched another passenger bus at Bangabazar area at around 6:30pm.
Meanwhile, pro-hartal activists torched a CNG-run-auto rickshaw at Chowdhurypara area at Malibagh in city, eyewitness said. On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
