The main opposition BNP on Saturday condemned the attack on two journalists of Independent Television by a ruling party MP and said it has proved that Awami League government does not believe in freedom of expression. In a statement, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the history of Awami League rule is the history of torturing journalists.He alleged that the present government has continued attacks on journalists and mass media to curb people’s freedom of expression.
Independent Television reporter Imtiaz Mamin Sony and cameraman Mohsin Mukul were allegedly assaulted by ruling party MP Golam Maula Rony and his ‘cadres’ at Topkhana road when they went to the MP’s office to verify some allegations against him.
Describing the incident as heinous, Fakhrul urged the journalist community to build a united resistance against the government to protect the mass media and journalists.
He also voiced grave concern over the future of democracy following the ruling party MP’s such offensive attitude.
