Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday said there was no alternative to discussion with the issue of ‘non-party’ neutral government on top of the agenda, otherwise the government’s call for dialogue would not be credible to the people. BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a news briefing at the party central office said the government was talking about dialogue but, ‘we are confused whether it is sincere’.
He acused the government of resorting repressive
measures against the opposition and said the people would unite and build up resistance against the ‘repression, confrontation and terrorism’.
Fakhrul said definitely there was no alternative to discussion to overcome ‘fear, anxiety and anarchy’.
He said the issue of an election-time ‘non-party’ government should top the discussion. Otherwise, he said the government’s call for dialogue and consensus would not be trustworthy to the people.
Fakhrul claimed that the people on Sunday had flooded the streets during the hartal and three leaders and activists of the 18-party alliance were killed in attacks by law enforcers and Awami League activists. He said 12 leaders and activists were killed in the last three days across the country.
