BNP grassroots level leaders and activists on Thursday said that the party has been negatively affected organizationally due to its participation in election forming an alliance with Jamaat.
As part of party reconstitution, 3rd day of exchanging opinions, BNP grassroots levels leaders and activists expressed their anger to the central leaders at Nayapaltan party office yesterday.
They said, “The parliamentary election was held in December, the month of victory. Young voters rejected Jamaat candidates as they (Jamaat) have strong allegation of being war criminals. BNP had taken part in the election forming an alliance with controversial Jamaat. So the voters boycotted BNP-Jamaat alliance. It is one of the major reasons for defeat in the election,” said some grassroots level leaders and activists.
They said, “Had BNP not contested in December 29 national election making alliance with Jamaat, it would not have been defeated in such a manner,” adding, “If the party doesn’t cut off relations with Jamaat and evaluate grassroots leaders it would face the same consequences again and again.”
Talking to this correspondent, leaders from Barisal said that we have called on the central leaders to inform the position of field levels of BNP after defeat in the election.
“We said to the central leaders that our activists are very much angry with Jamaat. So we proposed to them that ‘no more relations with Jamaat’ and young, honest and dedicated candidates should be included in the new committees,” they said. They thought that if BNP continue its activities as per party constitution, it will be able to recover the damage.
BNP leader Abdullah Al Noman and Goyeshwar Chandra Roy said that there is a fundamental difference between BNP politics and Jamaat politics. “BNP politics and Jamaat politics are not same. We had allied with Jamaat in special circumstances but it is not true that it will continue.” They said.
Goyeshwar Chandra Roy said we will inform the sentiments of grassroots leader to the party high ups. “I hope they will consider it very sincerely and take necessary steps,” he said.
