Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday warned BNP-Jamaat that they will have to shun militant and terrorist activities if they want to do politics in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
“You (BNP-Jamaat) will have to shun militant and terrorist activities if you want to do politics in Bangladesh, or else, people will reject them,” she said.Sheikh Hasina, also the President of Awami League, came up with the warning in her introductory speech at a meeting of the party central working committee at her official residence Ganobhaban in the evening.
About the ongoing terrorist acts in various parts of the country, Sheikh Hasina said the government is doing what is necessary, and it will get even tougher, if necessary, it is the sacred duty of the government to save the lives and property of people.
“Militancy and terrorism will have to be stopped at any cost and there’ll be no place for the militants and terrorists on Bangladesh soil,” she said.
Pointing finger at some ‘powerful quarters’, Hasina said no one can save these bad elements from their punishment, no matter how powerful they are. “They won’t be able to save these (militants and terrorists) elements despite their tall talks,” she said without mentioning name of any country.
The AL chief asked the BNP-Jamaat alliance to come to the path of democratic process for doing politics in Bangladesh, otherwise, she said, the people of the country will not accept them.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the government has many things to do in the coming days and their first priority will be saving people from the militants and terrorists. About the post-election violence unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat nexus, she said they (BNP-Jamaat) carried out the terrorists act as they did after the 2001 election.
Hasina said the BNP-Jamaat terrorists are committing such heinous acts boycotting the polls. “Had they (BNP-Jamaat) participated in the election and won it the situation would have been hundred times worse than the 2001 one,” she said adding that the Almighty Allah has saved the nation.
The AL president asked her party men to remain beside the affected people and save them from any adverse situation.
In this connection, she mentioned that the government has already asked the BGB to immediately reconstruct the homes of those affected by the recent communal attacks.
Sheikh Hasina questioned, “What was the fault of these innocent people? They just cast their votes in the election, nothing else.”
She went on, “These (BNP-Jamaat) men do not believe in democracy. And this is quite normal as they (BNP) were born from the pocket of dictator Zia.”
The AL chief said Zia rehabilitated Jamaat in Bangladesh politics after the ban on its politics by the post-liberation government.
Thanking the people of the country for casting their votes in the 10th general election defying all odds, she said the data showed that 40-45 percent people cast their votes.
Recalling the destructive politics of the BNP-Jamaat men ahead of the election in the name of agitation programmes, Hasina said their main aim was to kill people.
“It’s very much regretful, they killed people and their prime task was to kill people,” she added.
Thanking the people to give the AL-led alliance another chance to serve the country, Hasina said the government would continue its all-out efforts for the country’s development.
